Welcome to the Evergreen Bike Club

20 Apr 2023 by Kristin Courington

Thank you for your interest with Evergreen Mountain Bike Club! We are very excited to start our pilot program Monday, May 1st. Below is some additional information on the club and how to register. Hope to see you on the trail!

OUR MISSION:
The primary purpose of Evergreen Mountain Bike Club is to create lifelong riders, foster team camaraderie regardless of differences in ability, and encourage a love for the outdoors . The primary focus will be on getting kids out on the trails and to have fun doing it.

WHO:
Anyone who wants to ride. Your kid does not have to be good. At all. If they are little shredders, we will have more challenging rides for them as well. We want to encourage riders of all abilities. We will break up groups according to age/comfort on the bike. Bikes with hand brakes and gears only for trail rides. We will have a small skills group for striders as well.

DETAILS:
We will start each ride with a quick safety check (helmets, bikes) followed by a quick skills session.
We will divide into small groups (8 total with at least 2 adults) to ride various trail sections depending on abilities. We will likely “session” features on the trails to try to build skills including body position, braking, climbing, descending, pedal position.

COME PREPARED:
The following is required at each practice:
Join the club! Sign liability waiver/participation form.
A bike in good working condition that fits the rider.
A properly fitting helmet.
Close-toed shoes.
In a backpack: water, a healthy snack, a spare tube, raincoat
Recommended but not mandatory: gloves, elbow pads, knee pads.
Provide group leader with any necessary medical equipment for your child (epipen, inhalers, etc)

I’m a parent – can I tag along at practice?
Yes! We’re trying to achieve a kid:adult ratio of 3:1 on the trails, so the more the merrier. We can find a place for you whether you’re a pro or a novice. If you’re interested in being an official volunteer or ride leader let us know (email volunteer@evergreenbikeclub.org).

The weather looks bad – what happens now?
It is Colorado so we will anticipate some adverse weather conditions. We will do our best to ride but In the event of bad or dangerous weather (excessive rain, close lightning, floods, or fires) we may cancel regular practice.

Cost:
This is a volunteer run organization aimed at encouraging young riders in the community. We ask for a contribution to help cover the cost of insurance and permits. Contributions will be $50 for an individual rider, $75 for a family from now until January 2024. There is a free trial option as well.
